Ahead of Lakeside starting next month, Dartsnews.com caught up with Lorraine Winstanley for an interview that will be released in two parts before Lakeside. The current Winmau World Masters champion spoke about how she got into darts, signing for Target, Lakeside and winning her first major earlier this year. Interviews with other players competing at Lakeside will be released before the event starts at Frimley Green in January.

Q. Thanks very much for joining me for an interview Lorraine, first of all how did you get into darts initially??

‘I got into Darts by working in the pub. I sometimes worked the quiet day shifts where there were only a couple of people in so I’d end up having a game with them in between serving.’

Q. Recently you signed for Target Darts, one of the best darts manufacturers, what are your thoughts on that and when can the readers expect your new darts to be released??

‘I’m over the moon to have signed with Target. The leading manufacturers of Darts with a fantastic team of players. It’s an honour to be part of that. As for my new Darts they are being worked on as we speak so watch this space.’

Q. Next month you are aiming to win your first title at the Lakeside World Championships and you are facing Tricia Wright in the first round, what do you make of the draw and hows practice going ahead of it??

‘I love playing at the lakeside and I’d say this years field is the toughest to date. There’s no easy games there and it’s all in the day. I’m putting the work in and the practice is going well.’

Q. Of course you recently won the Winmau World Masters claiming your first major, how was it to finally get over the line and would you say that and becoming world number 1 shows how good you have been playing this year??

‘Winning a major as prestigious as the World Masters is amazing. I’ve had the best year of darting career so far and it’s finally showing.’
