Dave Chisnall survives Daryl Gurney fightback to reach last eight at Alexandra Palace for fourth time

Dave Chisnall has qualified for the quarter-finals at the World Darts Championship at the expense of Daryl Gurney. The Englishman managed to win the showdown with the Northern Irishman on Saturday afternoon, 4-2.

With an average of 99, Chisnall played a fine match. Only the doubles, as usual, did not always go well for Chizzy, as evidenced by his finishing percentage of 36 percent.

Opponent Gurney did not get off to a very strong start. Chisnall took full advantage and won the first two sets. The multiple major finalist then had a minor setback, which allowed Gurney to come back to 2-2 in sets.

However, Chisnall took the initiative back after he managed to throw a 99 finish in the second leg of set five. He then also threw out 62 to win the fifth set 3-0. The next key moment was the third leg of the sixth set. Gurney missed a chance to throw out 80, after which Chisnall struck from 44. That was immediately good for a break. Chisnall then finished it off decisively with a 13-darter.

It is the fourth time for Chisnall to reach the last eight at Alexandra Palace. In 2017 and 2019, this round was also the finish line. In 2021, "Chizzy" managed to reach the semifinals.
