Format for final part of World Grand Prix expanded

The PDC has slightly changed the format for the World Grand Prix. In the semifinals and finals, one more set will have to be won to win the match. The World Grand Prix is a unique tournament on the PDC calendar because legs must also be started with a double. Also, a set format is used.

Previously, four sets had to be won in the semifinals. Starting with the World Grand Prix 2024, the final four will be played over a format of best of 9 sets. The final will be over best of 11 sets starting with the upcoming edition.

Fans who buy tickets for the semifinals and finals can thus enjoy darts for longer. In the past five years there has only been one time that a deciding set had to be played in a semifinal or final.

The upcoming edition of the World Grand Prix is scheduled to be held in Leicester from Monday, Oct. 7 to Sunday, Oct. 13. Last year the World Grand Prix was won by Luke Humphries. He managed to capture his first major title at this tournament by defeating Gerwyn Price in the final.
