"It's such an iconic venue" - Stephen Bunting names Winter Gardens as favourite darting arena

As is tradition, every summer the darting world descends on Blackpool for the World Matchplay, held at one of the sport's most iconic venues, the Winter Gardens.

Since the tournament's inception in 1994, some 2,000 spectators populate the Winter Gardens every session. "I love the Winter Gardens," says former World Matchplay quarter-finalist, Stephen Bunting on 'The Checkout' podcast.

"The crowd is right on top of you and it's such an iconic venue," Bunting continues. "And it's not too far from my house!"

Nevertheless, Bunting has never managed to advanced beyond the quarterfinals (2019, when he lost to eventual winner Rob Cross). "The crowd is just always so respectful," Bunting adds.

The 2024 World Matchplay kicks off on Saturday, July 13, with the final being played on Sunday, July 21. Can Stephen Bunting continue his form shown recently and go all the way?
