"They don't want to see him win, they want to see him fail": Petersen feels disrespect towards Van Gerwen

After his emphatic Premier League Darts final victory over Gerwyn Price, Michael van Gerwen was the hot topic of conversation on the Love the Darts podcast.

"He just finds a way, he knows how to play these big games now doesn't he," said Mark Webster in conversation with Emma Paton and Devon Petersen. "I think in the Premier League a few years ago he wanted to send statements every week. He doesn't care about that now, just wants to win the title."

Van Gerwen was a comfortable winner in the final, claiming a record seventh title. "Even on the poll on Twitter they didn't even have Michael reaching the final," mentions Petersen. "I think that shows you, everyone now looking at Michael van Gerwen, they're not wanting him to win, they're wanting to see him fail."

"But he just doesn't give in and give anyone an opportunity so yeah," he continues. "I think Gerwyn Price will go away and think that he baked the cake literally, put the topping on and MVG just came past and went 'I'll have that.'"
