Van den Bergh reveals difficult childhood: "At school I was always bullied, darts therefore became my outlet, my passion"

In a new PDC documentary, we get to know Dimitri Van den Bergh better. He visits his old school, visits his favorite soccer club Royal Antwerp FC and takes a helicopter flight over New York.

Visiting his old school, Dimitri Van den Bergh tells the story of how he started playing darts. "When I was at school, I just always loved to be playing darts and at some point they said, 'You’re not so bad at it,"' Van den Bergh says.

Bullied

Van den Bergh's youth, however, was not always easy. "Going to school I always got bullied. Darts was always the thing that kept me going, it's my passion and I just want to win."

About his signature dance, Van den Bergh has the following to say. "It calms me down so I can start a game focused. I make people happy with it, but there are also people who don't appreciate it. You always have fans and haters now."

In the documentary, fellow players Michael Smith, Nathan Aspinall and Jonny Clayton have nothing but praise for the 29-year-old Belgian. "He really is a top guy," it sounds unanimous.

Goosebumps

Van den Bergh also paid a visit to "De Bosuil," the stadium of his favorite soccer club Royal Antwerp FC. It gave 'The Dreammaker' some goosebumps. "You have no idea what this club means to me. First time in 66 years we've won a cup, thanks to that phenomenal goal by Toby Alderweireld.... (blows) You can only understand the atmosphere here if you've been there yourself. This is special ground. If I am patient, like Antwerp's players, I will get there too."
