"The bull wasn't on my side" - Disappointed Michael van Gerwen reacts to early Premier League exit in Aberdeen

Michael van Gerwen was unable to pick up any points in the Premier League Darts on Thursday night in Aberdeen. 'Mighty Mike' lost 6-5 to Rob Cross in his opening match.

It was a costly defeat for Van Gerwen, who consequently saw Michael Smith move closer in the league standings. The 35-year-old Dutchman still holds the fourth spot, but Smith is closing in at just two points behind.

''Tough night in Aberdeen. The bull wasn't on my side,'' Van Gerwen wrote afterwards on his official X (Twitter) account, referring to his three near misses on the bullseye during the match.

A notable bullseye miss came in the final leg when Van Gerwen got another matchdart, but after finding the treble 20 and the treble 19, the bullseye was missed for a 167 finish. ''Disappointed with the result, but staying focused for the remaining weeks,'' the world number two concluded.
