Michael van Gerwen is back on top of the Premier League Darts table after an important win in Cardiff.
Mighty Mike claimed both points in an 8-2 thrashing of Rob Cross. The Englishman led the league going into the meeting, and established a 2-0 lead. But van Gerwen reacted in incredible style, blowing away the world number two. It means the Premier League Darts leadership changes hands once again.
Van Gerwen leapfrogs Cross into first place, with 18 points to his rival’s 17. There are just four games left until the league winner’s £25,000 bonus is decided.
Below the top two, there are no changes to the table whatsoever. James Wade remains third, thanks to an 8-2 win of his own against Peter Wright. Gerwyn Price enjoyed a memorable evening in front of his home crowd. The Welshman beat Michael Smith 8-5, and stays in fourth.
Mensur Suljovic remains out of the tentative play-off spots, but keeps pace with Wade and Price thanks to victory over Daryl Gurney. Defeat to the Gentle means Gurney stays in sixth, but means Superchin is now two points adrift of the top two.
Defeats for Wright and Smith effectively end the pair’s Premier League Darts campaigns. Wright stays seventh, with Smith one point behind.
