Gary Anderson and Peter Wright moved through as the first round action continues at the NZ Darts Masters in Hamilton.
Anderson had to battle past the pain barrier to move through to the Quarter-Finals with him having toothache which meant he went straight to the emergency dentist after victory over Haupai Puha.
Puha punished to begin the tie levelling the tie at 1-1 with double eight but he missed darts this time for a 120 checkout and Anderson moved 2-1 in front.
Anderson made it daylight at 3-1 ahead with 60 percent on the doubles. Puha went to 3-2 behind though with a break and made it parity at three apiece.
Anderson though regained the upper hand at 4-3 up and went one away despite missing 11 darts at doubles. From there he claimed victory despite not being at his best over the Kiwi ace.
Peter Wright on the other hand cruised past Brisbane champion Damon Heta in a 6-1 win as the top seed lived up to his billing.
Wright was in command from the very start going 2-0 up as his average rose towards the 98 mark. A 130 checkout saw him extend his lead to 3-0.
Heta wasn’t playing well and it showed with Wright punishing missed darts to make it 4-0. ‘The Heat’ finally got off the mark with a 117 checkout to trail 4-1 but this was in vein as Wright cruised to the victory.
