The World Darts Trophy, one of the biggest events in the BDO calendar, is moving to a new location.

In 2018, the World Darts Trophy will be contested at Preston’s Guild Hall. Unusually for a darts major, the World Trophy has never been held in the same location more than once. Manchester, Blackpool and Barry have all hosted the competition. Two years ago, it was held at the Lakeside. But this year, it makes a return to Lancashire. From 30 May to 3 June, 32 men and 16 women will compete for the title.

Australian Peter Machin, who won as a qualifier last year, will be back to make a title defence. The top 17 players in the Main Invitation Ranking tables also qualify. Glen Durrant, the world champion, is guaranteed entry. Nine World Regions leaders will also take part in Preston. The last four spots will be decided by a World Trophy play-off, which will be held during the Welsh Open. Women’s defending champion Aileen de Graaf and world champion Lisa Ashton will be present in Preston. World Master Lorraine Winstanley is also assured of a place. The top 11 in the Invitation Rankings other than the trio will appear. The last two spots to be filled will be decided by a play-off.
