Our first finalist at the Brisbane Darts Masters is confirmed with birthday boy Damon Heta set to play in a maiden TV final to continue his remarkable run after seeing off Simon Whitlock in an all-Aussie clash.
It is another scalp for ‘The Heat’ who has taken out James Wade, Gary Anderson and now Whitlock and he will have to take on either Daryl Gurney or Rob Cross as he now has the opportunity to claim a World Series crown on home soil.
Whitlock played brilliantly to start the tie off with him taking out 118 to claim the first leg and he moved 3-0 up from there averaging 102 and 75 percent on the doubles but Heta started to claw it back and went in 4-2 behind at the interval.
Heta took a break of throw to reduce the deficit to 4-3 behind and restored parity from there at 4-4. The turn-around was complete with ‘The Heat’ moving 5-4 up to give himself a foothold in the tie.
Whitlock had to buck his ideas up as he watched Heta go 6-4 up and he did so going 6-5 behind to stop the rot.
Heta though went one away from the victory at 7-5, would he get finishing line fever? Despite Whitlock making him serve out the match, he didn’t and he hit the match darts on second attempt to move through to the final.
