‘The Machine’ James Wade returned to form and is once again into a World Series Semi-Finals after one last month in Auckland and he did it in style dispatching former World Youth Champion Michael Smith 10-5 with a 101 average and will face either Gary Anderson or Simon Whitlock in the Semi-Finals
Wade started the match with a 180 and then finished on D10 to win the first leg against Smith. Wade then followed that up with an excellent 140 checkout to double his lead in the early going. This momentum continued with the Aldershot ace hitting a second maximum and then pinning his favourite D10 to go into a 3-0 lead.
Smith came back and got off the mark pinning D15 after hitting a maximum in the leg to make it 3-1. Wade though wouldn’t let him getting a leg faze him though as he hitting another ton plus checkout a 110 to move 4-1 ahead and have a 108 average. In the following leg, both men hit 180’s but it was the Bully Boy who pulled a leg back at 4-2 with a 60 checkout.
Smith missed three darts at the double he pinned previously D15 and Wade came back to hit D9 to make it 5-2 at the interval. When back from the interval, Smith came back and hit a 180 and a 126 checkout to make it 5-3.
James Wade though continued his momentum and hit tops to restore his 3 leg cushion at 6-3 and continued on hitting tops after a missed dart from Smith at D19 and he made it 7-3. Smith returned in the next leg and broke back with a 121 checkout at 7-4 down. Wade broke back himself though with The Machine taking out 65 to make 4 clear at 8-4. After Wade missed 7 darts at double, Smith held throw at 8-5 down.
Wade missed bull for a 161 checkout to go within 1 and he came back to do that taking out 25 on D10 and he followed that up with a 96 checkout on D8 to win 10-5 with a 98 average.
