Saturday afternoon at the Danish Darts Open features a lone Dane, a Portuguese, a New Zealander, an Australian, a Pole and a whole bunch of Brits.

Let’s start with a bit of international flavour. Cody Harris, born 10,886 miles from Copenhagen in Auckland but mostly plying his trade much nearer, starts off the afternoon action. His Danish Darts Open bow went well; Teuvo Haverinen put up zero resistance. Stephen Bunting, the 14th seed, will require a lot more legwork.

Darren Webster continues a bid to find form with a tough tie against Jose de Sousa, who impressed on Friday. That’s followed by the last Dane standing, Per Laursen. Denmark’s number one will look to dump Jonny Clayton out in round two; the same fate has befallen the Welshman in four of the last five European Tour events.

Dave Chisnall comes into the event as the ninth seed, in a devilishly difficult quarter of the draw. Krzysztof Ratajski, who swatted aside fellow Pole Krzysztof Kcuik yesterday, is just the tip of this particular iceberg.

Last year’s runner-up, Simon Whitlock, has a tough tie in store. Nathan Aspinall averaged three figures in round one, something he has managed more than once this year. The Stockport star didn’t even need to do it against Mick Todd. The Wizard will average higher, but the Asp has even more in the locker.

Kevin Burness beat the odds in style to send Glen Durrant packing. The Northern Irishman’s prize for a first European Tour win of the year is a match with Joe Cullen. That’s followed by Daryl Gurney taking on Ryan Joyce.

Chris Dobey is inching towards a World Matchplay spot. He faces Ricky Evans, a man whose European successes have catapulted him into a position where he visits Denmark as tenth seed, and already has his Blackpool spot sealed.
