Chris Dobey finished his 2019 in style reaching the latter stages of the 2020 PDC World Championship losing in a derby to Glen Durrant as well as claiming another match in the Premier League under the Challenger format.

Catching up with his darts manufacturer Unicorn on a recent visit, he said that despite being gutted about the result against Durrant, he is confident heading into 2020.

His hope now is that he can turn those two semi-finals on TV into finals but he is under no illusion about where his game needs to improve.

“I felt I played well in the back end of 2019. Bit gutted obviously with the result in the World Championship, felt that I could have won that game against Glen (Durrant) but things are on the up and hopefully I can get a good start to 2020,” said Dobey to Unicorn Darts.

“I feel my game is suitable for the stage and that’s where my best stuff is, I just need to pick my floor game up abit to get myself into those majors. My game’s up there now and hopefully we can turn those semi-finals into finals.”

In terms of the Premier League, despite wanting a rematch with Durrant he is glad to be facing Gurney as he hopes to gain retribution after losing to him at the Players Championship Finals in 2017 and 2018.

Also on reflection, his main ambitions are to get his first title and he doesn’t mind whether that is on the floor or on TV.

“I felt as if I could have been playing Glen in a rematch but I look forward to playing Daryl, he’s a good friend of mine and fantastic player and hopefully I get a bit of revenge from the Players Championship.”

“Hopefully get that first title under my belt whether that’s a floor event or a major, I’ll certainly be looking for my first win.”
