Glen Durrant with victory on Friday night at the Grand Slam of Darts achieved a feat that hasn’t been done in six years.
That is to make the semi-finals at the event as a BDO representative with ‘Duzza’ becoming the first player since Scott Waites in 2013 to do so.
Waites in particular has done it three times and barring his recent switch when he attempted Q-School for the first time, he is the only player barring Durrant who is already in the PDC not to swith after.
Gary Anderson reached it twice in 2007 and 2008 before he joined the PDC and similarly Dean Winstanley did back in 2012.
The gap shows the increasing one it seems between the BDO and PDC as before 2013 barring 2011, every year since 2007 there was at least one representative in the latter half of the tournament.
