The German Darts Open continues into its third and final day on Sunday.
Every single one of the 16 German Darts Open hopefuls remaining will at least be aiming to feature in the evening session. The first tie of the third round brings the world number one to the stage. Van Gerwen is the clear favourite, and the exit of defending champion Wright will have helped his chances. He meets Alan Tabern, who swept past an off-colour Bronzed Adonis in Steve Beaton on Saturday. Second in the billing is a tight-looking clash between two Englishmen in decent form. Dave Chisnall was superb in a rout against Jose Justicia. His next hurdle is a taller one, figuratively speaking, with Ian White posing a real challenge. Jelle Klaasen cruised past debutant Maik Kuivenhoven in round two; Michael Smith will undoubtedly be a much tougher opponent.
Then comes the tie sure to get the German fans on their feet. Home favourite Hopp has beaten every seed he has met in the European Tour this year. Next in his sights is 2017 finalist Benito van de Pas, who limped to an uninspiring win against Paul Nicholson on Saturday. The Maximiser may fancy a decent run in Saarbrucken. If he can topple Big Ben he would meet either Joe Cullen or Daniel Larsson in the quarter-finals. Cullen struggled past Luke Humphries last time out. Larsson had an easier time of things, putting his feet up as Simon Whitlock backed out due to illness. Mensur Suljovic and Gerwyn Price, who both exited the Premier League after Judgement Night, will take no time to console each other when they meet in the seventh tie of the third round. Cross closes out the session against Darren Webster.
The afternoon session kicks off at 12pm. The evening session is set to begin at 6.15pm. Both will be shown live on PDC TV.
