Gerwyn Price had a stellar 2019 season – but wants to take his career another step forward in 2020.

The Iceman stormed to a second successive Grand Slam of Darts title to double his haul of major trophies. He also excelled on the floor and the European Tour, but fell short of his targets in the Premier League Darts and the World Championship. Price, who opened his Premier League campaign with a 6-6 draw against Rob Cross in Aberdeen, is firstly focused on reaching the play-offs.

“Hopefully I can do a little better than last year.

“I’m in a good frame of mind, I’m playing well and hopefully it’ll be another good year for me in the Premier League.

“It’s going to be tough week in, week out; not just in the Premier League, but going to the Pro Tours and Europeans in between. Sometimes playing darts is the easy part!” Price told Tungsten Tales.

Contender challenge

Price offered his thoughts on the contenders, who remain part of the Premier League format this year. The Welshman will play Jermaine Wattimena in Rotterdam, but it was Fallon Sherrock who grabbed his attention. The history-maker will face Glen Durrant in Nottingham on Thursday.

“I know she’s pumped up to play him!” Price said of Sherrock.

“It’s one of those – it’s a woman who probably isn’t as strong as the men, but it’s tougher for you to play against a woman too.

“The crowd is going to be on Glen’s back. I’m sure they’d be on my back if I was playing her; they would be anyway!

“It’s going to be tough for everybody who’s playing the challengers. You’ve just got to get out there and win.”

Aiming for the treble

Away from the Premier League Darts, PDC world number three Price has some goals in mind. Chief among them is making himself the third person ever to win three Grand Slam titles on the spin. After reaching the World Championship semi-finals in December, a spot at next year’s final is also in his plans.

“I just want to have a good run – I want to do well this year.

“I just want to do well in the Pro Tours and the Europeans. They are the main things that keep you in the TV events.

“It’d be nice to go back up and win the treble in the Grand Slam, that’s probably my main target.

“And have a good run in the TV events – maybe go one step further at the Worlds as well.”
