Burnett gives scathing review on demise of BDO: 'Probably the worst sporting organisation of all'

Richie Burnett was part of the line-up for MAD (Modern Amateur Darts) launch this past weekend and speaking to the assembled press, he spoke of excitement of the idea put forward.

"Me and Rod Harrington spoke about something like this years ago, but at the time there was nobody around who could put it into fruition. To hear it come up, to play title shots like boxing fixture is hugely exciting for myself because I can especially in this day and age look forward to something," said Burnett in a press conference ahead of The Dawn.

But while he had positive words to say about the new structure, Burnett had a scathing review of the BDO after their demise and is one player glad to see the back of the organisation.

"The amateur structure needed to be overhauled, BDO as you know was going nowhere. Other factions were trying their hardest but this now seems to be professionally run. I've always said you can't have amateur people run amateur sport because you'll get amateur results. It's supposed to be run as amateurs by professional people. You can't fail."

"I'm glad to see the back of the BDO, they were absolutely drab, probably the worst sporting organisation of all. They had no right to be there. I'm glad to see them gone."
