Mark McGeeney will appear at the Grand Slam of Darts – and he’s ready for it.
Coventry-born McGeeney will be in familiar territory, just a short trip up the M6 away in Wolverhampton. And as the BDO number one, he carries the hopes of his code on his shoulders. He starts his Grand Slam campaign in a tough tie with PDC world champion Rob Cross. Yet the Gladiator is excited to enter the area.
“I feel really good right now, I think I’ve got the beating of anyone on my day. I simply can’t wait to get to Wolverhampton,” McGeeney told Live Darts.
“It will be tough in the Grand Slam. I’ve drawn Rob, Dimitri Van den Bergh and Ryan Searle. But it’s a chance for more competition and to show people what I can do.”
Now a part of Team Unicorn, the Lakeside-runner up took time to pay tribute to his backers. Thanks to their intervention and his form, things are certainly looking up for him.
“Everything has been really positive now for the past few months. It’s really boosted me psychologically,” he said.
“But since joining up with Tommy and Stephanie Gilmour at Dunvegan, I just feel I’ve got everything in the right place. It’s the best set-up I’ve had in my career.
“I won the treble in Turkey of the Pairs, Classic and Open in one weekend so I know I’m in good form. Then I came back and signed for Unicorn which is something I’ve always wanted to do in my career.
“That’s such a big thing for me personally. To know I have Dunvegan and Unicorn behind me gives me such a huge positive outlook. Now I know all I have to do is throw the darts, nothing else.
