Michael van Gerwen loves to visit Scotland – and he isn’t telling porkies.
The PDC world champion defied Mensur Suljovic’s superior average to see off the Austrian in Glasgow. A 7-3 win marks a strong start to his Premier League campaign. It also means that van Gerwen has continued some strong form in Scotland. He puts his tartan tungsten tenacity down to one tasty treat.
“I love coming to Scotland for the square sausage, I love that stuff,” revealed Mighty Mike in a Live Darts interview.
“Maybe I have that every time and that makes me win, who knows?”
Square sausage, also known as Lorne Sausage, has been a Scottish staple for more than a century. Whether van Gerwen fancies his with a dash of brown sauce or a dollop of ketchup, at this point, remains a mystery.
However, there’s no mystery regarding van Gerwen’s chances of Premier League success in 2019. A pair of wins to start the season leaves him clear at the top of the table. Before the win over Suljovic, the Dutch ace pointed out the importance of consistency, no matter where he is playing.
“I always love coming to Glasgow to be fair, always a good noisy crowd. They love their darts and I always want to perform well, but that’s the same anywhere.
“Sometimes you have the crowd against you, sometimes with you. It’s all part of the game you just have to perform every week and you have to win.
“I have a phenomenal record but I also love this tournament. It’s great to perform week after week for the big crowds that makes me a happy man.”Tags: Michael van Gerwen | PDC | Premier League Darts 2019
