Top five darts players of all-time

Darts has an incredible history which goes all the way back to the 1860s when the sport had its origin. Since then, this sport has seen some incredible players come and write their name in the history books with ease. The top players have been able to amass several trophies under their belt – just like many of the top football players featured on this website. It is crucial to go through the list of top darts players to understand the sport in a better way.

Eric Bristow

Bristow is a household name when it comes to darts after having made a large amount of success back in the 1970s and 80s. After having picked up the BDO World Championship title on five occasions, Bristow was able to dominate the World Masters with several titles at the start of the 1980s. The failure to get past the semifinals of the PDC World Championship in 1997 would be one of the few disappointments. Bristow remains an icon even after his passing in 2018.

John Lowe

John Lowe created history by becoming the first player in the sport to pick up the World Championship title at various stages over 30 years. Lowe has managed to keep himself out of the limelight, but he has constantly been in the headlines after a long list of successes in different tournaments. He was able to get the BDO World Championship title during the 1979 season following the successes in 1983 and 1983.

Raymond van Barneveld

Raymond van Barneveld is considered a strong favourite in the world of darts. He has been crowned as the PDC World Championship and BDO World Championship winner on multiple occasions. If these were not enough, he has also been successful in the Premier League and Grand Slam of Darts. Over the years, van Barneveld has picked up some big wins with the most memorable being the 2007 PDC World Championship success against Phil Taylor.

Michael van Gerwen

This list is very competitive and Michael van Gerwen comes a close second. He is widely seen as the darts prodigy. He was able to pick up a World Masters title just four years after making his debut. This achievement put him on the records page. As the current top player in the rankings, van Gerwen has picked up many honours including multiple PDC World Championship titles and World Matchplays to his name. Still, just past 30 years of age, van Gerwen has a long way to go.

Phil Taylor

Phil Taylor has picked up 16 world championship titles to his name. He has also been the recipient of the World Grand Prix on 11 occasions. Other noteworthy mentions for the star would be many Grand Slams and Premier Leagues. The total accolades picked up by the 60-year-old is significantly greater than any other player in the history of the sport. It is not a surprise that Taylor was crowned as the BBC Sports Personality of the Year back in 2010.
