Simon Whitlock gave a thumping performance against a very under par Benito van de Pas who didn’t bring his form like he showed against Gerwyn Price which allowed ‘The Wizard’ who was on his game to smash him 3-0 in sets.
Whitlock started off by winning the opening leg on throw with Benito waiting on a finish and the same thing happened in the following leg but after Benito missed darts to hold his throw, he hit D18 to go one away from the first set.
‘The Wizard’ took the first set easily hitting D20 to go to the break impressive. He came back from the break still playing brilliant taking out tops including a 180 in the same leg and then he followed that up by taking out a brilliant 120 checkout on the bull (S20, Bull, Bull) to make it 2-0.
Whitlock missed five set darts and in a game of double chasing, Van de Pas eventually hit D2 to make it 2-1. Whitlock finally converted the second set hitting D10. Whitlock opened with a hold of throw hitting D2 and then broke Benito’s throw to go on the verge of the semi-finals.
Benito broke throw after this to keep his hopes alive. Whitlock though extinguished these hopes by taking out 62 to set up a semi-final clash.
