The second day of action is confirmed at the European Darts Trophy with Michael Smith, William O’Connor and Wayne Jones all through in Mannheim.
Smith kept his hopes of reaching the European Championship alive with a 6-3 victory over Steve Lennon and sets up a clash with Michael van Gerwen tomorrow as a result.
‘Bully Boy’ hit four 180’s en route and defied a near 95 average from the Irishman to continue in a big weekend for his season.
O’Connor similarly has a big weekend ahead of him in terms of the European Championship with him edging out Max Hopp to throw the race to Gottingen further up in the air. He saw off ‘The Maximiser’ in a thrilling last leg decider to silence the partisan crowd in Mannheim as a result.
12 months ago in the old venue of Hamburg, O’Connor reached the final losing to Michael van Gerwen, is another run set for ‘The Magpie’.
Finally Wayne Jones pulled off a shock win over Jeffrey de Zwaan to end the proceedings. He played well averaging 93 with the doubles the difference between the pair with 40 percent being hit in quite an even clash.
