Due to Coronavirus, darts has come to a halt but DartsNews as a result takes a look back at some historic moments from darting history with this time Michael van Gerwen once again being the focus.

Van Gerwen provided one of the best known moments in World Championship history in recent times back at the 2012 edition when he nearly hit two nine darters in a row.

The World Number One threw a nine-darter in the fifth set and then started the leg again with two 180s. Van Gerwen then threw a sixteenth and seventeenth perfect arrows in a row, but then was stranded on double 12 to make history.

In 2017, he managed to complete the feat of two nine-darters in one game. It wasn’t during a TV tournament though, it took place in a Pro Tour tournament in Wigan.
