Vincent van der Voort starts his 2019 PDC World Darts Championship on Monday evening. ‘The Dutch Destroyer’ faces Lourence Ilagan in the first match of the session.
The Dutchman did not know much about Ilagan yet. Van der Voort told Dartsnews.com that he even watched YouTube videos to analyze his Asian opponent.
“I do not know much about him, but he is active on the softtip circuit. Also he reached the semi-finals at the Winmau World Masters, so it is certainly a good player. I have watched videos of him on Youtube, because I don’t want to be completely surprised.”
If Van der Voort beats the Filipino, then Darren Webster waits in the second round. Chris Dobey and Steve Beaton are his eventual opponents in the third round if he overcomes Ilagan and Webster. Not a bad draw for Van der Voort at the World Championship, although he made a small comment on that conclusion.
“If you see all those names, it’s a decent part of the bracket to sit in. But sometimes it’s better to draw a top player who is not in a great form. If you beat such a player, you can take over this seeding. The draw is as it is, you can not change anything.”
