Michael van Gerwen is annoyed by Dutch darts fans who call him arrogant. The world number one says he doesn’t deserve these allegations.

”Only Dutch fans call me arrogant. I hardly hear anyone about this in England, Germany, Australia or any other country”, Van Gerwen told NUsport.
”That annoys me sometimes, it’s not needed to call me that. Everyone who knows me, knows it’s not true. I’m not arrogant, just a normal guy. Of course, sometimes I talk the talk, but that’s part of the game.”
Some comments from Van Gerwen in the media are disliked by Dutch fans. They say the three-time world champion is disrespectful about his opponents, because ‘Mighty Mike’ always says he is the best darts player in the world.
”I’m just very confident. I don’t want to put myself in a underdog position ahead of a match, that’s not fair. You need to believe your own strength, otherwise you can’t perform. I don’t think it’s disrespectful to my opponents. If they don’t play way, you should be allowed to mention that. I will not come with excuses. When it’s bad, it’s bad.”
