Michael van Gerwen wasn’t enamouring in his first round victory over Mark Cleaver but as he says it was about getting the win despite it not being a perfect performance.

For Van Gerwen though he didn’t want to make too many mistakes and now has his sights on winning the tournament. Depending on what occurs tomorrow, he will remain the favourite to do so come Sunday.

“Tonight was about getting the win and I didn’t make too many mistakes,” said the Dutchman. “It’s not a perfect performance but I am still in and my goal is to win the tournament.”
