Michael van Gerwen has spoke ahead of the World Matchplay beginning in a few weeks time and admitted he wants to learn from his mistakes.

Van Gerwen has failed to claim victory in the past few years as well as at all in the Champions League of Darts.

He said that he has had better preparation this year with no World Series event in between with him for example being on holiday now missing multiple events.

‘The World Matchplay and the Champions League of Darts are the two tournaments this year that I really want to win. I’m going to do everything in my ability to prepare myself as good as possible.’

‘Last two years I’ve made a huge mistake playing the World Series of Darts in Shanghai, the travel distance, it killed me, it didn’t do me any good.’

‘I’ll have different preparation this year , I think it’s going to work, I feel a lot more comfortable, because I love the tournaments, long formats, it suits me.’
