Michael van Gerwen is on course for yet another European Tour title which would be his 25th success. It would be claiming one of only a few European Tour titles he doesn’t hold in the Gibraltar Darts Trophy. He will face Steve West who dumped out Rob Cross.

A 97 average from Van Gerwen with a highest out of 82 showed that he might be saving something for the latter stages but it was enough to see off Clayton who couldn’t take out his shots at key opportunities.

His opponent Steve West averaged ten less than his opponent Rob Cross but took out the key shots at the key times to counteract being outscored. This included an 81 checkout for an 11 darter in the decider. By his own admission after the match he admitted he probably won’t beat Van Gerwen but can he cause a sensation in Gibraltar??
