Mark McGeeney is the number 1 seed for Lakeside but due to Glen Durrant’s dominance he hasn’t been seen as a real contender until yesterday when the Stockport player knocked out Danny Noppert to reach the Quarter-Finals.

Noppert who was seen as a potential favorite against the Gladiator averaged less than 90 in a poor performance from the Dutchman. Now like Cameron Menzies the day before has now announced his intention to join the PDC and go to Q-School in a few days time. McGeeney spoke afterwards to Mackenzie Cadman of Tungsten Tales and admitted he was ‘relieved’ after reaching his furthest point at the tournament.

He then went onto say he just said to himself to keep his ‘composure’ as he thinks Danny is a ‘superb player’. He hit checkouts including 160 and 127 but McGeeney even agreed with Mackenzie that the 31 was the ‘crucial’ checkout for him to come through.

Next up he will play Wayne Warren who continues a great run at the Lakeside in what will be a great game.
