Adam Smith-Neale wrote the story of the night on Sunday evening at the Lakeside, despite losing in the Preliminary Round. The Warwickshire ace entered the stage with two crutches and used one of them during his match against Mark McGrath.
The surprising winner of the 2018 Winmau World Masters, broke his leg in three places at the end of November in Italy. His physiotherapy started in the last week of December, but Smith-Neale refused to give up his Lakeside debut.
Despite his heavy injury he traveled down to Frimley Green, where he lost 3-0 in sets to McGrath. Smith-Neale received £2.000 prize money for turning up at the Lakeside. His opponent McGrath faces two-time tournament winner Glen Durrant in the first round.
