Ahead of tonight’s World Grand Prix final including Michael van Gerwen, we take a look back at his first triumph on the Emerald Isle.

Van Gerwen was taking on Mervyn King in the final; who also that year came through as a ProTour qualifier so wasn’t even seeded.

King went 4-1 up and was seemingly on his way to victory; but Mighty Mike came back to win five sets in a row to claim a 6-4 victory in stunning circumstances.

This was the making of Mighty Mike who from here went on to become the real dominant force in the world of darts.
