The first two ties of the afternoon session at the 2020 BDO World Championship both went the distance with Wayne Warren and Ben Hazel through.
Warren was facing Justin Thompson; who had already had a game under his belt on the World Championship stage. It went all the way with no player getting any breathing space.
Both their averages were almost identical in the early going with them both claiming a set. Warren went one away from the next round as he went ahead for the first time in the match but it went to a decider.
Warren in a great final set though pinned a 120 finish to see off the challenge of Thompson.
Hazel in his tie with another experienced player in Joe Chaney also was sent all the way, it could have been so much different though.
Chaney took out 142 to get off the mark in set one but despite that Hazel took the first set as he settled in well on debut. He quickly took a two set lead but despite that, his lack of experience on the big stage showed as Chaney nicked two sets in quick fire style.
It once again went to a decider as a result. Despite surrendering that lead, Hazel went on to win hitting double 12 to move through on debut.
