Simon Whitlock became the third player on the night to win in straight sets as he got the better of Richard North.
After North had taken the opening leg, ‘The Wizard’ reeled off three successive legs to win set one. ‘Northy’ managed to push the Australian to a fifth leg in the second set, but found himself 2-0 down after Whitlock hit double nine.
The former European Championship winner hit the same target to take out 98 and immediately break throw. Double ten put Whitlock on the brink of victory. ‘The Wizard’ hit back-to-back 180’s in leg three, and sealed the win on double eight after North had missed double seven for a 122-finish.
Whitlock will face Benito van de Pas on Thursday for a place in the semi finals, a stage in the tournament the Aussie has never reached before.
