Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson pull out of International Darts Open 2024

There will be disappointed German fans who would have liked to see Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson at the International Darts Open in Riesa this weekend. The two former world champions have both withdrawn from this tournament.

The PDC has not released a reason for the withdrawal of the Dutchman and Scot. What is known, however, is that Anderson recently struggled with a shoulder injury.

The International Darts Open is one of the few Euro Tour tournaments that Van Gerwen has yet to win. He lost there in the third round in 2015, after which 'Mighty Mike' invariably chose not to travel to this event from 2016 through 2019. In 2020, Van Gerwen returned to Riesa and then lost in the final to Joe Cullen. Last year, the Dutchman also had to settle for second place after defeating Gerwyn Price in the final.

They will be replaced by Lee Evans and Dylan Slevin. Stephen Bunting and Joe Cullen have advanced to the list of seeds due to the cancellations.
