Impressively, Michael van Gerwen has managed to amass a tally of 10 night wins, since the format change of Premier League Darts back in 2022. A glaring omission from his haul howver, is a weekly title on Dutch soil.
Next Thursday, the Night 12 of Premier League Darts 2024 will be played in the Ahoy Rotterdam. For the past two seasons, Van Gerwen has missed out on taking the victory in front of his home crowd.
In 2022, Van Gerwen began the mini-tournament with a 6-5 victory over Michael Smith before making it to the final with a 6-3 win over Jonny Clayton. In the final match, however, Joe Cullen proved too strong 6-5. Last year 'Mighty Mike' fared even worse. Then Nathan Aspinall beat the Dutchman 6-5 in their first match of the night.
If van Gerwen is to finally tick this goal off his list, he'll have to do it the hard way this year. He meets reigning world champion, Luke Humphries in his quarter-final tie in Thursday evening.
