Lewis wins PDC Home Tour Group One with back-to-back wins over Wright and Jacques

The first PDC Home Tour Group has gleamed a surprise winner of sorts with Jamie Lewis taking the honours on the first night of action in the new tournament.

Lewis who of course is a former PDC World Championship semi-finalist came into tonight as the second favourite behind Peter Wright but saw off the World Champion en route to winning through.

'Fireball' claimed a 5-1 rout over 'Snakebite' with a 99.7 average and 5/6 on his doubles to at that point join proceedings having lost early on to Niels Zonneveld. He followed that up with a consecutive victory over Peter Jacques which saw him move to the top of the table.

This meant that a big win was needed by either player in order to overtake Lewis and despite Wright claiming a 5-1 victory in the end over the young Dutchman he finished on two less leg difference than Lewis.

The Welshman ended up finishing on 13 legs won and 10 legs lost compared to 11 legs won and 10 legs lost from Wright in second which held the key in the end and sent the World Champion crashing out at the very first hurdle.

Proceedings continue tomorrow with the second night which sees Gerwyn Price, Luke Woodhouse, Ted Evetts and Rowby-John Rodriguez take to the oche. Will 'The Iceman' suffer the same fate or will he win through to the next round?
