Peter Wright opened up the first iteration of the PDC Home Tour with victory over Peter Jacques in a match where he snatched the victory away from the Yorkshireman in the decider.
Jacques had led 4-3 and left himself well placed for the match but Wright hit a brilliant 100 checkout utilising two double 20's to claim the tie in a very good opener.
Wright through virtue of two 140's hit a 15 darter to hold his throw in his opener against Jacques. The Terrier who had a poor start against the throw played strongly on his own getting multiple shots at 72 and he took it out to make it 1-1.
'Snakebite' once again though wasn't troubled on his own throw with a 139 set up shot leaving 62 which he took out for a third consecutive 15 darter overall.
He left 40 with a 130 set up but Jacques was on hand to pin 48 to make it 2-2 with no break forthcoming yet. Wright had a chance for the break with another brilliant set up shot leaving 62 but Jacques took out an excellent 156 checkout to hold.
Wright missed three at double 20 and Jacques responded with a 52 checkout to break throw and go one away from victory. The former broke back though to take it to a deciding leg. 140 left 97 for Jacques after a poor 30 score, Wright was on 100. Like alluded to, the latter rescued it with a 100 checkout with two double 20's.
Zonneveld and Jacques both claim early wins
Niels Zonneveld and Peter Jacques also took victories to go into the latter half of the first evening with the Dutchman leading the table after his respective win at this point.
Zonneveld took on Lewis which saw the former take the throw and the first leg but a timely 180 and 15 darter saw the young Dutchman hold his throw and go on to take a 3-1 lead with a break.On Zonneveld's own throw, he was left on 137 to hold with Lewis on 79 and 'Fireball' took it out for parity and to make the game very interesting in the closing stages.
Lewis was left on 25 but Zonneveld took out a timely 74 checkout to go one away with a break. He took it with double 10 with the Welshman well back.
Then Zonneveld and Jacques faced off with a dominant win forthcoming for the latter 5-2. Both players exchanged holds of throw in the early going with the former going 3-2 up due to having the throw. He claimed a break to go one away from there by hitting a 155 checkout with Zonneveld left on 56.
Zonneveld missed a 48 checkout to break back and Jacques took the match on double two to mean that everyone barring Jamie Lewis at the halfway stage has a victory.
