With the BDO World Darts Championship not taking place for the first time this month due to the demise of the organisation, DartsNews takes a look back at some of the best moments and matches from over the years.
In 1988 the final of the BDO World Championship was between
Bob Anderson and John Lowe . For Anderson it was his first World Championship final, after a very strong run until the final. He started with a 3-1 win over Bert Vlaardingerbroek and then defeated Russell Stewart (3-0), Peter Evison (4-0) and Rick Ney (5-0) without losing a set. Moreover, he threw at least a 97 average in all those matches.
He met Lowe in the final, who had defeated five-time world champion Eric Bristow (5-2) in the semi-final. However, it was not a third world title for Lowe, but a first title for Anderson, who took the final 6-4.
