THROWBACK VIDEO: Bob Anderson claims 1988 World title with victory over Lowe in final

With the BDO World Darts Championship not taking place for the first time this month due to the demise of the organisation, DartsNews takes a look back at some of the best moments and matches from over the years.

In 1988 the final of the BDO World Championship was between Bob Anderson and John Lowe . For Anderson it was his first World Championship final, after a very strong run until the final. He started with a 3-1 win over Bert Vlaardingerbroek and then defeated Russell Stewart (3-0), Peter Evison (4-0) and Rick Ney (5-0) without losing a set. Moreover, he threw at least a 97 average in all those matches.

He met Lowe in the final, who had defeated five-time world champion Eric Bristow (5-2) in the semi-final. However, it was not a third world title for Lowe, but a first title for Anderson, who took the final 6-4.
