THROWBACK VIDEO: Taylor survives six match darts en route to second World title

With the BDO World Darts Championship not taking place this month due to the organisation’s demise, DartsNews looks back at classic moments and matches throughout January from the showpiece event.

Five-time world champion Eric Bristow and defending champion Dennis Priestley were already eliminated in the second round during the 1992 edition. The road to the final was therefore open to the other top players.

They were Phil Taylor and Mike Gregory, who indeed made it to the final. It was also the first World Championship final since 1978 without Bristow or Lowe. In a tense final between Gregory and Taylor, a deciding set was needed to determine the winner.

In the deciding set, Gregory received no fewer than six match darts to become world champion, but he missed all of them. Then it was Taylor who did strike to take his second world title.
