The legendary duo have competed in unforgettable tussles, on the biggest of occasions. Now Taylor and van Barneveld are on course to meet again in a unique exhibition - set in their own homes.
The Covid-19 outbreak has brought sport to a standstill, and darts is no exception. Van Barneveld's first year on the exhibition scene has come to a premature end, and darts fans will be without the likes of the Premier League Darts and European Tour for the foreseeable future.
But it appears that Target Darts, which sponsors both Taylor and van Barneveld, has a solution to suit everyone.
Rumours that the duo would play in a live-streamed match seem to have been confirmed by The Power on Twitter. The game would be played using Target's Nexus online electronic board, with proceeds going to charity.
Target has used the system to host a number of 'Play a Pro' fan events in the past.
"Will be trying to win this game that's for sure," said Taylor on the potential clash.
And van Barneveld stoked the compeititive flames by responding: "Game On @PhilTaylor"
Target added: "We're trying to make this happen - let's raise money for charities and get some competitive sport to watch!"
It is yet to be confirmed when the event would take place, or where it would be streamed.
