Although the focus at the PDC is currently back on the Players Championship tournaments, however, the MODUS is also playing a tournament. This week the International Pairs 2 is on the schedule, and the Swedish duo of Andreas Harrysson and Anton Östlund almost provided a historic highlight there.
Both are representing Sweden at the pairs tournament of the MODUS Super Series this week, which also features Dutchmen Jimmy van Schie and Danny van Trijp. Harrysson and Ostlund almost managed to throw a historic nine darter Monday afternoon in their match against Scotland, represented by Robert Thornton and Scott Campbell.
With this they would have entered the history books, as never before at a pairs tournament had a perfect leg been produced by a duo. Unfortunately for the Swedes, the last arrow was missed by Ostlund.
The way they went for the ninth darter was perhaps even more special. Ostlund started the leg for the Swedes and opened with 180. Then it was the turn aal Harrysson, who threw triple 19 three times to take 171 points from it, leaving 150. Where a route for triple 20 and triple 18 or two times triple 19 to leave double 18 would have been the most obvious, Ostlund chose another option.
The 25-year-old decided to try it three times on the bullseye, a spectacular way to make darts history. The first two arrows went into the middle of the bullseye, but unfortunately for all darts fans, his last arrow shot into the single bull. Still, the way the Swedish duo went for the nine-darter remains beautiful to watch.
Harrysson and Ostlund did manage to end the first two playing days of the International Pairs 2 on a positive note. After 10 matches played, they are currently in second place, just two points behind leaders Van Schie and Van Trijp.
