A 9-dart leg wasn’t enough to save Kyle Anderson in an epic semi final tussle as MvG sealed his place in the European Championship finals.

Anderson also missed 2 darts in a deciding leg to knock out the 3 time defending champion which would have secured his first major final appearance.

Anderson led at the first mini-break. He opened the encounter with an 11-dart leg before breaking van Gerwen for a 2-0 lead. The Dutchman hit back in the next 2 legs, double 16 in both putting the pair back on level terms.
After the break the world number one showed his class. A hold of throw to open the mini-session before consecutive breaks against the Anderson throw. A 121 finish on the bull a highlight.

The Australian finally got on the board after the first interval, breaking back to trail 6-4 in the final leg before the second interval.

It was after the interval that the magic happened. Kyle Anderson Hit a 9-darter. The first man to do so on the European tour since Ross Smith. That triggered a fightback from the Aussie that would eventually take us to a deciding leg.

Initially van Gerwen held his throw to keep his 2 leg cushion. After that though he could do nothing to stop the onslaught from the Original. Anderson took 4 consecutive legs to put himself just 2 away at 9-8 up and had a chance to lead 10-8. Missing 2 darts at double 12.

In the decider Kyle missed 2 darts at double 20 to progress to the final. MvG stepped in to take 76 in 2 and dash the Australians hopes of a first major final. Mighty Mike now awaits the victor of the second semi-final. Rob Cross vs Daryl Gurney.

Will we see MvG lift this title for a fourth time in a row?
