There's a ton of action on the schedule for the sixth day of BDO World Championship action.
The
Lakeside has seen plenty of drama, and there's lots more to come. Seven World Championship games will be played on Thursday. But before that on the schedule, the first champion of 2019 will be crowed. Leighton Bennett meets Nathan Girvan in the
BDO World Youth Final. 13-year-old Bennett is already making waves in the game. He hit the headlines in August, holding off top level opposition to . The English youngster will have his work cut out against the pride of Scotland, Angus' own Girvan. The 16-year-old, a beaten finalist in 2017, could become the fourth Scot in history to claim a world title. While the following women's and men's matches won't determine any world champions, they will have a big impact on their respective tournaments. Mikuru Suzuki has already done that, by beating the defending champion. A makes the debutant a real dark horse for the title. Sharon Prins is the seed and has more experience to boot, but the Japanese phenomenon will be the favourite if she continues in the same vein. That's the first quarter-final - the second follows right behind. in round one. She meets Fallon Sherrock, who showed glimpses of her scintillating summer form in a . Closing out the afternoon session is the first of three ties which wrap up the men's second round. Scott Mitchell opened his campaign with a . He takes on another surprise package in Krzysztof Kciuk. Dave Parletti had fancied his championship chances, before . If the Pole can cause another shock, Jim Williams will await in the quarter-finals.
One step closer
Top seed Lorraine Winstanley produced a lower average than any first round winner, bar Sharon Prins. She knows improvement will be needed on Thursday evening - especially when the opponent is a ten-time world champion. Trina Gulliver may not have shown her very best at the Lakeside for a while now. A over Karolina Podgorska proved that. But the Golden Girl knows what it takes to win on the biggest stage of all. Winstanley has had more experience of that elsewhere in 2018. If she wants that winning feeling at Frimley Green, this is exactly the sort of game where she needs to stamp her authority. The second men's tie of the day is between two players in uncharted territory. David Cameron has won twice as many games this year as in his previous five visits combined. Andy Hamilton and Gary Robson are impressive scalps as well. His next target is Kyle McKinstry, a first round loser on debut last year but now a step away from the quarter-finals due to a . Neither will want their Lakeside journey to end here. Anastasia Dobromyslova in the first round, winning all six legs played. Meanwhile Aileen de Graaf completed a in four years. As fourth and fifth seeds respectively, they will be acutely aware that this quarter-final will be much tougher to navigate. Though they have been on the tour together for many years, this is their first ever Lakeside meeting. One of them is about to claim bragging rights, and the last semi-final spot. Glen Durrant is another step towards a third BDO World Championship following . With that potential banana skin out of the way, Durrant is two wins against unseeded opponents away from the semi-finals. Before he can consider playing Cameron or McKinstry, Scott Baker needs to be dealt with. The Mod to make it this far. Beating the 15th seed is a trifling matter compared to the task of overcoming the man widely regarded as the BDO's best. for more information about the 2019 BDO Lakeside World Championship.
