World Youth Champion
Corey Cadby defeated 5-time world champion
Raymond van Barneveld in the first round of the Melbourne darts masters. The ‘King’ playing in his hometown has now won 3 of his 4 opening round games in the
world series and will meet
Phil Taylor for the 4th time in 2 years. The game remained on throw all the way to 4 a piece, although Cadby had a chance to break in the 5th leg, the pair missing 12 darts between them before Barney hit mad house double 1 to take the leg. In the 9th, it was Barneys failure to set up a clean finish from 161 that allowed Cadby a chance, the youngster with a magnificent 159 to leave 24 which he duly took out in the following visit. Cadby sealed victory with a 12 darter.
Cadby’s quarter final opponent Phil Taylor proved too much for Kiwi Cody Harris. The New Zealand number 3 and world cup team member again showed glimpses of what he’s capable of, a classy 126 in leg 2 a stand out point. The match stayed on throw until 4-3 Taylor, the Power finishing double 7 under pressure from Harris. Taylor would then secure a break with double 8 in the 8th leg, before rounding off the match in the next.
All eyes will now be on the Cadby vs Taylor Quarter final, as the Power attempts to get back on level terms with the young Aussie.
