Rob Cross in an interview with the Express this week has said that neither him or Michael van Gerwen can eclipse Phil Taylor’s brilliance.

He sees the reason being that the money in the game has improved meaning the standards go up. This leaves the top players vulnerable which means it’s unlikely to happen according to Cross. “What, 16?” Cross says to Express Sport, “No. When I lifted that trophy last year, I didn’t believe that was the last time I was gonna lift it. “But I’ve really got to say what [Taylor] did, to dominate the sport to such a degree, I don’t believe that will be done [again]. Not even Michael’s achieved that. “The thing with it now is, when you inject so much money into the game, I believe the standards get stronger. “Everyone’s liable to go up there and hit a 103 average, for instance. “It’s a totally different ballgame now [to when Taylor played]. Maybe, maybe someone could do it – but they’d have to be like a machine.”
