Chris Dobey avoided an early defeat in the first round at the Austrian Darts Open. He survived nine missed match-darts against Andrew Gilding.

Gilding went 5-3 up and left double 8 after eleven darts. Then 'Goldfinger' missed seven darts on the doubles to seal the win.
Dobey reduced the deficit and hit a 13-darter to level the match. Gilding missed another two match-darts in the decider before Dobey claimed the win with his second 13-darter on the spin.
Steve Beaton and Ryan Searle booked easy wins in the first round. Beaton overcame Mark Barilli 6-3, while Searle defeated Diogo Portela 6-1.
