Ian White claimed the number one spot for the Players Championship this year and in the process became the fifth different player in a row to do so.

The first was Gary Anderson who claimed the top spot in 2014 with 5 titles in all claiming £68,500 over the course of the year in the process. Peter Wright was 2015 with three titles compared to that five but steady form saw him claim £52,500 and the top spot over the course of the year.
Michael van Gerwen led the list in 2016 with the most money and titles over the course of a season in this series so far. This was £71,750 with five titles overall. Then it was the turn of Rob Cross who had his breakout year in many ways winning four titles.
Finally it was the turn of Ian White who had the best year of his career on the floor tournaments.
