The final leg of this year's Premier League Darts group stage is a Tour de Yorkshire; after this week's Sheffield showdown, we have just one meeting in Leeds left.
Rob Cross and
Michael van Gerwen will decide their fight for top spot. Four other players will learn their play-off fate. It all hangs in the balance at this point in time. James Wade is one of those players in need of as many points as possible. , yet is just a point ahead of fifth-placed Daryl Gurney. Given that his season ends with a tricky tie in the form of Rob Cross, this feels like a must-win. Michael Smith, on the other hand, is released from the pressure of point-grabbing. He won't want to finish eighth, but otherwise the Bully Boy can play freely. It makes him a serious dark horse both for this match and his clash with Gurney next week. Last year's finalist is going to have a big say in who makes it to the O2 Arena. It's starting to look like Rob Cross will finish top of the Premier League table at the second attempt. Voltage has been largely excellent, and was absolutely ruthless in . He finishes this part of the campaign against two men who will be scrapping for points. First up for Cross is Mensur Suljovic, one of the few to take points off him this season. The Austrian did so in quite incredible style, too, rising from the dead to grab victory in Rotterdam. That sort of attitude has helped Suljovic to some wins this season where other players might have lost their head. He'll have to withstand a barrage from Cross, but the Gentle knows how to spring a surprise. With his play-off hopes on the line, he'll need to have something up his sleeve. The reality of the situation is that Daryl Gurney and Gerwyn Price can't both be in the Premier League Darts play-offs in London. Mathematically, it's doable. But it's so unlikely, because it involves both James Wade and Mensur Suljovic going to pieces. Thanks to a - thus completing a double - Gurney has his nose in front. It also continues a pretty decent record against the world number one in stage matches, which shows how much of a big game player the Northern Irishman is. Price, meanwhile, will have to look back on a mediocre post-elimination run of form and rue missed chances - should he not make the play-offs. Two wins, two draws and a defeat makes for six points from five games. Though to be fair to the Welshman, Gurney has only picked up five. A three-match losing streak before the split could be Price's downfall, unless he picks himself up to beat both Gurney and then Peter Wright in Leeds. Speaking of Wright...Snakebite ends proceedings in Sheffield. 2019 has been a bitterly frustrating year for him thus far. summed it up well. Even a modicum of consistency would have earned a win, but the Scot couldn't maintain the standard needed. His Premier League Darts season can't end soon enough. He stands in the way of Michael van Gerwen's pursuit of another title. Since his first induction into the Premier League, the Dutchman has always topped the table. Rob Cross' brilliance, and timely slips from van Gerwen, has shattered his indomitable image. Should he lose this one, it'll surely be Cross who picks up the £25,000 winner's bonus. That will be certainty should Voltage beat Mensur Suljovic earlier in the evening.
