MASTERS RD1 VBARNEVELD4

Raymond van Barneveld twice surrendered comfortable leads before winning a 10-9 thriller against Dave Chisnall at the Masters.

In a clash between former runners-up, the Dutchman was pegged back to 9-9, but took the deciding leg. A 101 average saw him over the line, despite a 106 average and nine 180s from Chisnall. Van Barneveld was pleased to get to the quarter-finals, though annoyed with the manner of his win.
"I'm happy with the win but I always seem to make it exciting," he complained.
"When I was leading 3-2 and 7-3 I should have made it easier for myself but I lost concentration."
The tenth seed had plenty of praise to spare for Chisnall. Despite the comeback, the seventh seed continues the poor run of form that saw him lose his Premier League spot.
"Dave came back fantastically but when he got back to seven-all I knew that I just had to win my own legs and I did that. He's a class player and to me still belongs in the Premier League so he has to fight back," said Barney.
"In the last leg I had the luck but I'm working hard and I can look forward to my next round now because this would be a fantastic tournament to win."
Peter Wright is next up for the five-time world champion. They meet in the afternoon session on Sunday.
